2021 BMW X6 M Competition
The BMW X6 M is a high‑performance luxury SUV that blends the X6’s coupe‑styling with full‑fat BMW M power, sharp handling, and flagship tech. It sits above the standard X6 as a “Sport Activity Coupé” tuned for drivers who want SUV size plus sports‑car‑like performance.
Engine and performance
The current X6 M and X6 M Competition use a 4.4‑litre twin‑turbo V8 petrol engine with 48‑volt mild‑hybrid assistance:
-
X6 M: Around 530 hp and 750 Nm torque, giving 0–100 km/h in about 4.1–4.2 seconds.
-
X6 M Competition: Roughly 625 hp and 750 Nm, with 0–100 km/h in about 3.8–3.9 seconds and 0–200 km/h in around 13–13.6 seconds.
Power is sent through an 8‑speed automatic and xDrive all‑wheel drive, with M‑specific differentials and rear‑bias tuning for strong traction and agile cornering. The V8 delivers a very muscular, eager feel that shrinks the car’s apparent size on the road.
Ride, handling and practicality
The X6 M uses M‑Sport suspension, adaptive dampers, stiffer springs, and larger brakes, which make it much sharper and more controlled than a normal X6. The ride is firm and focused, prioritising grip and body control over pure softness, though it’s still liveable as a daily driver.
It is a 5‑seat, fastback SUV with a sloping roof that reduces rear headroom a little but gives it a very aggressive, coupe‑like stance. The boot is about 580 litres behind the rear seats, expanding to over 1,500 litres when folded, which is still strong for a performance‑oriented model.
Interior, tech and safety
Inside, the X6 M feels like an M‑badged cabin:
-
M‑specific steering wheel, carbon‑fibre or Alcantara trim, M‑sport seats with strong bolstering,
-
Full curved‑screen digital dash, BMW iDrive infotainment, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and premium audio (Harman Kardon or Bowers & Wilkins on higher trims),
-
Heated and ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, and rear‑seat climate vents.
Safety is strong for the segment, with multiple airbags, stability control, M‑specific brake and traction systems, plus adaptive cruise, lane‑keep, 360‑camera, and other BMW driver‑assists, giving it high‑score crash‑ and safety‑test credentials.
Price and market fit in Kenya
Globally, an X6 M starts around $110,000–130,000 USD, with M Competition trims edging higher depending on spec. In Kenya‑market terms, new X6 M or M Competition units are often quoted in the 25–35 million KSh range, with some specialised or high‑spec builds landing closer to 35–40 million KSh landed.
The X6 M suits enthusiasts, high‑end importers, and performance‑minded executives who want a very fast, visually aggressive 5‑seat SUV that can handle:
-
Nairobi‑to‑out‑of‑town highway runs,
-
Weekend spirited driving,
-
Occasional off‑road and rough‑surface detours,
while still offering strong BMW tech, comfort, and M‑level presence at the top end of the X‑series range.
